The Background: The Reality of Hebei’s Aluminum Industry
Hebei Province is a powerhouse of China’s heavy industry, but factories here face unique pressures. Mr. Zhou, the plant manager of a massive secondary aluminum recycling facility in Baoding, knows this all too well.
“We used to have a full crew of stackers,” Zhou says, looking at his workshop floor. “But the younger generation has moved to Beijing and Tianjin for office jobs. The workers we have left are over 50. Standing next to 700°C ingots, doing heavy lifting in -15°C winter… it’s not sustainable.”
To make matters worse, Zhou had just installed a second casting line to double his capacity. He needed automation urgently.
The Engineering Roadblock: The “No-Dig” Rule
Zhou initially looked at standard 6-axis robotic palletizers. But his factory was built over a decade ago. The concrete floor hid a complex network of high-voltage cables, heating pipes, and storm drains.
“We couldn’t dig a pit foundation,” Zhou explains bluntly. “The cost of relocating those underground utilities was more than the equipment itself. Plus, with the strict environmental inspections we face every winter, we couldn’t afford a six-month factory shutdown for civil works.”
He needed a system that could serve two parallel casting lines but require zero floor excavation.
The Solution: The Overhead Long-Arm System
In early 2023, our engineering team visited Zhou’s facility in Baoding. We proposed a custom Long-Arm Palletizing Machine.
Here is how the system was engineered for Hebei’s specific conditions:

Surface-Mounted Rails: We laid heavy-duty steel tracks directly on top of the existing concrete floor. No pits, no broken tiles. The 12-meter long-arm spans across both casting lines.

Adaptive Dual-Line Scheduling: The PLC was programmed to monitor both lines. If Line A ejects ingots faster than Line B, the long-arm automatically prioritizes Line A. Neither line ever overflows.

Cold-Weather Kit: Because the factory is unheated, we upgraded the hydraulic oils and pneumatic valves to withstand temperatures down to -20°C. We also added anti-condensation heaters to the electrical cabinets.
The Installation: A Weekend Project
The best part of the project was the speed. Because the track was mounted directly on the floor, the mechanical installation was completed over a single weekend.
“We didn’t even have to stop the furnaces,” Zhou notes. “The mechanical team assembled the boom on Saturday, and the electrical engineers finished the PLC calibration by Tuesday.”
The Results: Passing the Winter Inspections
By November 2023, the long-arm palletizer was running flawlessly in the freezing Baoding winter. The results transformed the factory:
